Beaufort Annual Garden Walk - A different garden each day.
Greetings from Beaufort, SC.
Although the boat has been in Lady’s Island Marina since the last few days of May, we have only been there for a handful of weeks. Francie left for California mid-June to attend a nephew’s wedding and visit our daughter and son, Erin and Jon. Then she flew to Chicago to visit her sisters and her mother. Mike left the 3rd week of June also for California to help our son Jim with a construction job and drive with him back to Florida. Mike then flew to Chicago to visit our son, Patrick and his wife Kristine and met up with Francie to go to Mike’s father’s 90th birthday party.

Finally we arrived back in Beaufort the last week of July. We had a wonderful time, but there is no place like home especially when it floats.
For the past 5 years, we prided ourselves on keeping our life simple. We owned a boat and two bikes. What else could a person want? About 6 months ago or so, we talked about someday doing more land traveling. That would mean owning a car, and at the time we were definitely not ready for that!
That was then and this is now. We are now the proud owners of a 2014 Honda CR-V, which we named Anam Car-a. (The pundits can groan…) A motivating factor to this sudden complication to our lives was the opportunity to drive Tony's’ (Francie’s brother) motorhome from Washington DC to Sarasota, FL. He doesn’t care if we take the long way to get there! It is a wonderful chance to see if we would like this life style for the future.

Our land travels begin on Labor Day and the highlights of our travels will be taking a tour of the White House and our introduction to the motorhome. (No disrespect to President Obama for elevating our stay in a motor home to visiting the home of our President!)
The trip from Washington DC to Sarasota will roughly be via: Shenandoah Valley (Woodrow Wilson birthplace); Asheville & Biltmore Estates; Outside Atlanta (Carter library);. Eufaula, AL (visit Plains GA); Somewhere mid Florida, maybe Ocala.

Beaufort Waterfront Festival
We plan to be back to Beaufort in the beginning of November to take the boat down to Marathon, our winter port.
As we have all experienced, lives change. Ours certainly is going from the simple to the more complex, but it is leading to all kinds of exciting possibilities. We have talked about whether or not we will keep up our journal if we become full time RV’ers. It reminds us a little too much of “what I did on my summer vacation”. Time will tell.
