Cortez, Florida We are here!
Anna Lisa & Kurt

January 7, 2011
We left Marathon/Boot Key on December 16 and arrived in Cortez, Florida the following day. This was our second trip across the Gulf of Mexico; the first was several years ago when we brought the boat up to Chicago. This trip was much more pleasant (no thunderstorms!), although we motor sailed for the 30 hour (192 nm) trip. Sometimes we think we are just a slow motor boat with a stick! Cortez is mostly a small “old Florida” town just off Anna Marie Island, which is north of Sarasota, Florida.
The day after we arrived we drove back across the state to Ft. Pierce, where we attended Mike’s niece’s beautiful wedding on the beach and spent Christmas with his family at his sister’s home in Fort Pierce. When we arrived back to the boat, we visited with Francie’s brother, sister-in-law and parents celebrating birthdays and part of New Year’s Eve. Francie’s brother Tony had flown his plane from LA and took several trips around the area with Francie’s parents and Mike in tow!
Yesterday while looking out over our new home, a small marina which is in a cove surrounded by condos, we marveled that the past 6 months have just flown by. Here we are in sunny shiny Florida. At times we have to pinch ourselves to make sure this is not a dream, and we will wake up finding ourselves at work.
Now that the holidays are over, we are beginning to think about the boat upgrades we want to make before taking off again. We have tried to add exercising to our daily routine. We have enjoyed staying in one place.
Jim who lives in Orlando is bringing the tools and truck to start on the new floor. We are also going to paint which will beautify the inside as well as continue with the general maintenance. We plan to add solar panels and reconfigure our anchor and bow roller.
We wish you a joyful and prosperous new year.
