Heading South
October 26, 2013
All the family visits are done for the fall, and we are headed south. Barefoot Marina at Myrtle Beach has been a good stop for us; the airport is close; and the grocery is a short bike ride away. In addition it had nice laundry facilities, great bike riding for Mike and a humongous pool for Francie. It was 38 degrees the night before we left, definitely time to go south! We stayed on the ICW to Georgetown and anchored near the channel to the Atlantic. The next morning, we left at sunrise for a two day trip to St. Mary’s inlet at the Georgia-Florida border.

The NOAA weather prediction was for light winds from the West moving to the Northeast. That translated to 15 knots of winds on the nose as we motored south! By the second day, the winds were calmer and behind us; we are really a slow power boat with a big stick!
After one night anchored near Cumberland Island in Georgia, we received permission from our insurance company to move south into Florida early (two days before November 1). The next night was on a mooring ball in Fernandina Beach and then one more day of travel brings us to St. Augustine, Florida. Camanchee Cove Marina is home for the next 7 weeks.
